おはようございます。
最近、息子の習い事でちょっとしたトラブルがありました。私が直接解決できることではないのですが、この出来事を通していろんなことを考えるきっかけになりました。

時としてこうした場面では、
「強者」と「弱者」が生まれます。

強者は大体波に乗って前に進んでいて、努力が報われた、自分は正しいという感覚を持ち、心地よさや勢いを感じているものです。それはそれで素晴らしいことだと思います。

でもその影に、複雑な想いを抱えたり、それによって傷つく人がいるかもしれないという配慮は、人として大切にしたいと強く感じました。

もちろん、考え過ぎて動けないというのも問題ですが、動き方を考えなければ沢山の人を傷つけたり、迷惑を掛けたりするものです。

これはトラブルではありませんが、今年も甲子園がありましたよね。優勝したチームがいて、負けてしまったチームがいる。

世間では優勝したチームに注目が行きがちで、そのチームを素晴らしいと讃えます。

でもその背後には、毎日頑張って頑張って練習をしてきたのに、負けてしまったチームが沢山あるわけですよね。大きな悔しさを抱えた人たちがいる。

負けてしまったチームがいるからこそ、優勝できるチームもいる訳で…。当たり前なのですが、それを忘れてはいけないと思うのです。

プロ野球も経験されたある野球コーチが先日こんな話をして下さいました。

「優勝の「優」は「すぐれた」と書くが「やさしい」とも書くだろ。優勝するチームは優しくなきゃいけないと思うんだ。勝って喜ぶのもいい。でも負けたチームの悔しさを想像できたり、自分も負けを経験してきたからこそ勝った喜びを強く感じられるし、人にも優しくできる。それを忘れてはいけないと思う。」

良い話だなぁと聞いていました。

何でもそうだと思うのです。強者だからこそ、弱者の気持ちに寄り添い、気遣いをしていく必要がある。

「あなたにとって本当の勝利とは何を意味しますか？」

Recently, there was a small issue within my son’s extracurricular activity team. It wasn’t about my son personally, but rather something that happened within the team as a whole. I couldn’t directly solve it myself, but it became an opportunity for me to reflect on many things.

In situations like this, there always seem to be “the strong” and “the weak.”

The strong are usually riding the wave, moving forward, feeling that their hard work has paid off, that they are right, and enjoying the comfort and momentum that comes with it. And I do think that’s something wonderful in itself.

But at the same time, I strongly felt that it’s equally important to remember there may be people in the shadows who feel conflicted or even hurt by that. That kind of consideration is something I want to cherish as a person.

Of course, overthinking and being unable to act can be a problem too. But if we don’t carefully consider how we move, we risk hurting or troubling many others.

This next example isn’t about trouble, but as you know, this year’s Koshien high school baseball tournament was held. There was a winning team, and of course, there were losing teams.

Society tends to focus on the champions and praise them as something great.

But behind that spotlight, there are countless teams that practiced hard every single day. There are players left with deep frustration and regret.

It’s precisely because those teams exist that there can even be a winning team in the first place. It’s obvious, but I believe we must not forget that truth.

The other day, a baseball coach who also played professionally shared these words with me:

“Do you know the word for victory in Japanese? It contains the character for kindness. I believe a winning team should be kind. Celebrating a win is fine, but what matters is being able to imagine the pain of those who lost, and remembering your own experiences of loss. That’s what makes the joy of winning meaningful, and what allows you to show kindness to others. We must never forget that.”

I thought that was such a beautiful lesson.

I believe it applies to everything in life: those in a stronger position must especially strive to understand and be considerate of those in weaker positions.

“What does true victory mean to you?”
