時々、人の働き方や職業に助言をする人がいる。
「その職業はなくなるから、やめておいた方がいいよ」
「その仕事は稼げないから、別の道を考えたほうがいいよ」
「歳を取ったらできなくなる仕事だよ」
私自身、大学のキャリアセンターでは、客室乗務員になりたいという目標を「やめた方がいい」と言われたし、働き方についても「効率が悪いからやめたら？」と言われたことがある。
言った本人は親切心で言っているのかもしれない。
けれど、そういう言葉を聞くたびに思う。
「その人の何を知っていて、それを言うのだろう？」と。
仕事に対する価値観は、人それぞれ違っていい。
定年後の人生設計を考えている人もいれば、稼ぐことよりもやりがいや充実感を重視する人もいる。
“なくなる職業”といわれても、実際には形を変えて存続するケースもある。
誰が20年前、YouTuberが億を稼ぐ時代が来ると予想できただろう？
時代の流れは誰にも完全には読めない。だからこそ、変化の中でチャンスが生まれ、新しい道が切り拓かれる。
そう考えると、ネガティブな意見に振り回されて、やりたいことを諦めるのは、あまりにももったいない。
大切なのは、他人の価値観に左右されるのではなく、自分自身の軸を持ち、目標に向かって進むこと。
それでも進み続ける強さが試されているのだと思う。

Sometimes, there are people who give advice on how to work or what career to choose.
“That job will disappear, so you should give up on it.”
“You can’t make money in that job, so you should think of another way.”
“It’s a job you won’t be able to do when you get older.”
At the career center at my university, I was told that I should give up on my goal of becoming a flight attendant, and I was also told about my work style, “It’s inefficient, so why don’t you quit?”
Perhaps the person who said it was being kind.
But every time I hear such words, I wonder. “What do they know about that person to say that?”
It’s okay for each person to have different values regarding work.
Some people are thinking about their life plans after retirement, while others value fulfillment and fulfillment over making money.
Even if a job is said to be “disappearing,” there are cases where it actually continues to exist in a different form.
Who could have predicted 20 years ago that YouTubers would make billions?
No one can completely predict the flow of the times. That’s why opportunities arise in the midst of change and new paths are opened up.
If you think about it that way, it would be a waste to give up on what you want to do because you are swayed by negative opinions.
The important thing is to have your own axis and move forward towards your goal, rather than being influenced by the values of others.
I think you are being tested on your strength to keep going despite that.
