先日、久しぶりに雑誌を買ってみた。
高校時代に部活動に勤しんでいた頃、部活が終わってからの楽しみの一つとして雑誌を買って読むことがあった。その頃から私にとって雑誌は「娯楽」を表すものであって、前職のフライトでも雑誌を持っていってステイ先のベットの上で読むことがワクワク感を取り戻す一つの方法であった。
最近は仕事や勉強、子育てに追われていたのもあって、すっかり忘れていたが、雑誌を買った時の高揚感は自分にとっては不思議なくらい高いものだった。
そういえば、小学校の時から雑誌は大好きだった。特によく読んだのはファッション誌だ。同じくらいの女の子がどんなものを着て、どんなものを持っていて、どんな過ごし方をしているのか、そういうものが見えて、少し年上のモデルさんをみては自分もこうなりたいと妄想する。おそらく、そこからワクワク感が生まれ、自分への固定概念や過去・現在が外れて自由になる、そんな感覚が好きなのだ。
そして大人になってからは、雑誌をみるとその頃の感覚が戻り、今では味わう事ができない実家の安心感だったり、親から守られている感じ、なんの心配もなかった頃の自分が戻ってくる感覚もある。
大袈裟かもしれないが、私にとって雑誌はそんな風にワクワク感、自由、安心感を象徴するものである。
こういうものが誰にでも一つや二つないだろうか。
小さな頃に好きだった事。
安心するもの。
不思議と自分に高揚感や自由な感覚を与えてくれるもの。

The other day, I bought some magazines.
When I was in high school and was devoted to club activities, one of the things I enjoyed after club activities was buying and reading magazines. Since then, magazines have represented “entertainment” to me, and even when I was flying at my previous job, I would take a magazine with me and read it in bed at the destination, which was one way to regain the excitement.
Recently, I’ve been busy with work, studying, and raising children, so I had completely forgotten, but the excitement I felt when I bought a magazine was strangely high for me.
Come to think of it, I’ve loved magazines since I was in elementary school. I could see what girls my age were wearing, what they had, and how they thought, and I fantasized about wanting to be like the models who were a little older than me. Perhaps that’s what gives me a sense of excitement, and I like the feeling of being free from fixed ideas about myself, past and present, and being free.
Then, the feeling of being a child returns, and at the same time, I remember the sense of security I had at my parents’ home, the feeling of being protected by my parents, and the time when I didn’t have any worries.
It may sound exaggerated, but to me magazines symbolize excitement, freedom, and a sense of security.
I think everyone has one or two things like this.
Things you loved when you were little.
Things that make you feel secure.
Something that mysteriously gives you a sense of excitement and freedom.
